OSAKA Masaaki

Chief Lumada Business Officer & General Manager, Digital Innovation Head Office, Nuclear Systems Division, Nuclear Energy Business Unit, Hitachi, Ltd.

In 1993, OSAKA Masaaki joined Hitachi, Ltd. and engaged in equipment design for BWR nuclear power plants.

He was mainly responsible for reactor containment vessels and large-scale structures inside the containment vessel, and involved in licensing and construction activities for Shika Nuclear Power Station Unit 2.

From 2002, he was engaged in the development of inspection and repair equipment for reactor internal structures such as reactor core shrouds, as well as performing inspection and repair work at operating plants.

From 2004, he returned to responsibilities related to reactor containment vessels and was involved in licensing and construction activities for Shimane Nuclear Power Station Unit 3 and Ohma Nuclear Power Station Unit 1.

From 2006 to 2018, in addition to work related to domestic nuclear power plants, he was engaged in U.S. licensing activities for the ESBWR and in the GDA (Generic Design Assessment) for a project to construct ABWRs in the United Kingdom.

From 2019, he was appointed Senior Chief Engineer, providing leadership and coordination for in-house research and development activities.

Since 2024, he has been concurrently serving as Chief Lumada Business Officer for the Nuclear Energy Business Unit and Head of the Digital Innovation Division, promoting company-wide digital transformation (DX) initiatives and advancing customer DX support through co-creation activities with customers.
