William D. MAGWOOD, IV
Director-General, OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA)
William D. Magwood, IV has served as Director General of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) since 1 September 2014. He brings extensive experience in both nuclear regulation and nuclear energy development at national and international levels. From 2010 to 2014, he was one of the five Commissioners of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, promoting strong and independent nuclear regulation worldwide. Earlier, from 2005 to 2010, he worked as an independent strategic adviser on energy, environmental and technology policy.
Between 1998 and 2005, he directed the U.S. Government’s civilian nuclear energy programme at the Department of Energy, where he established the Idaho National Laboratory, revitalised nuclear technology education, and launched major initiatives such as the Generation IV International Forum and Nuclear Power 2010. His career also includes roles at the Edison Electric Institute and Westinghouse. He holds degrees in Physics, English, and a Master of Fine Arts.
